The La Vergne Police Department arrested eight people this morning on multiple drug charges including heroin and prescription drugs.

In addition, officers conducted two home searches and found even more drugs.

During the operation, offenders brought children to deals and dealt the drugs near elementary schools and churches. Some of the drugs bought or found were lortab, xanax, suboxone, morphine, percocet and heroin.

Arrested were:

Sabrina Bush, 43, 1006 Ewing Drive, La Vergne, charged with the sale of Schedule 3 and 4 drugs and criminal conspiracy.

Robbie Bush, 55, 1006 Ewing Drive, La Vergne, charged with the sale of Schedule 3 and 4 drugs and criminal conspiracy.

Carol Hackett, 44, 308 January Steer, Apartment C, in Murfreesboro, charged with sale of Schedule 2 and 3 drugs.

Austin Lecroix, 19, 152 Center Street, La Vergne, sale of Schedule 3 and 6 drugs.

Anthony Lecroix, no age available, 152 Center Street, La Vergne, possession of Schedule 6 and drug paraphernalia.

Cathy Brimer, 49, 126 Plantation Drive, La Vergne, sale of Schedule 2 and 3 drugs.

Elbert Hanvy, 31, 192 Mason Circle, La Vergne, sale of Schedule 1 drugs (heroin).

David Keith, 21, 396 Old Nashville Highway, sale of Schedule 3 drugs.

Each person arrested, with the exception of Anthony Lecroix, was charged with selling the drugs multiple times.

The operation took about a month, said LPD Sgt. Mike Mullen.

''In my tenure with La Vergne, this is the first time we've dealt with heroin sales,'' Mullen said. ''On one hand it makes us feel good that we stopped the dealing. On the other hand, it's a sobering fact that it was available within our city and is here. We're excited that we've gotten a grip on the dealing of heroin, which was taking place multiple times each day.''

Mullen said that Hanvy had written a suicide note and the arrest may have saved his life.

At the Lecroix home, there have been at least three drive-by shootings.

''In the last year, there has been one and there were two prior to that,'' Mullen said. ''We know that the last one was related to the drug dealing.''

LPD Chief Ted Boyd was pleased with the results of the operation.

''We found out a month ago that the sales were going on,'' he said. ''With the hard work of Narcotics and CID, we were able to complete these busts. We will not tolerate dealers within our city. These are local people. It's the first time we've heard about heroin and is scary that it was being dealt within 1,000 feet of a school.''
