I like this article. I am writing this post for a Free Expression class at MTSU and this is perfect material. In our Free Expression class we really talk a lot about censorship and why its necessary. We are even getting into why the Internet should be censored now…in a Free Expression class.
I do not mind at all if someone wants to fly a Confederate flag. If it bothers someone else that is their problem, I am sorry they feel that way. I feel like this article is far from subjective. It says flying a Confederate flag is insane in the first sentence. That is simply dismissive.
I am not going to fly a Confederate flag anytime soon, but I will if I feel like it. I have seen rappers wearing Confederate flags, black guys from the South who are as proud of their heritage as any other American. Being outraged is a choice. Having a chip on your shoulder is a choice. Censorship is offensive. This is a non-issue in my mind. Why be distracted? If you do not like it then do not look at it. It is not hurting any one.
I doubt I would get along with the guys flying the flag. That is not the point. The point is it’s their right to do so unless it’s against the law. There is a lot of stuff happening in the world that you cannot see from a highway in Virginia, The American flag represents some foul, evil things in my opinion. If I were up in arms every time I saw an American flag I would never get anything done.
Be it flags or health care anything can result in groups being polarized. Social media just fans the flames and whether in Richmond or Washington nothing gets accomplished.
