| The Middle Tennessee Hot Shots youth basketball teams proved why they are some of the best in the state during the state tournament June 6 in Franklin.
The 9 and under team became state championships, while the 10 and under team finished runner-up during the competition at the A-game Sportsplex in Franklin.
“It shows them that hard work and their commitment paid off,” Director of the Hot Shots Cedric Alford said. “It was a very special accomplishment.”
All of the players attend elementary school locally and they compete in several events around the state. The 9 and under team’s performance during the state tournament earned them a spot in the Youth Basketball of America national tournament this weekend in Orlando.
“There are a great group of kids not only in basketball, but outside of it,” Alford added.
The Hot Shots, however, will not be able to attend the national tournament this year due to a lack of funds. The team is looking forward to next season, and they hope to continue the success. Alford said if the team qualifies next year, they will make the trip.
The organization is also looking to expand the number of teams it will field next season. Currently, it has a 9 and under squad and 10 and under squad. Alford hopes to have an 11 and under, 12 and under and 13 and under team in the near future. |
