Murfreesboro City Schools and Rutherford County Schools will hold kindergarten registration in the coming weeks.

MCS’s registration is from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7 at each of the 10 elementary schools: Black Fox Elementary, Bradley Academy, Cason Lane Academy, Discovery School at Reeves-Rogers, Erma Siegel Elementary, Hobgood Elementary, John Pittard Elementary, Mitchell-Neilson Primary, Northfield Elementary, and Scales Elementary.

RCS will hold registration the second full week of May at each of the system’s elementary schools. As times vary by site, click here for a full schedule of registration times.

Parents should register children in their zoned school, unless they have been otherwise notified of a zone waiver. Residents living outside of the city limits who have requested enrollment in a city school will receive notification of assignments by U.S. Mail no later than May 1.

A child who will be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 30 may enter kindergarten provided they are enrolled at the beginning of the term. A child who will be 6 years of age on or before Sept. 30 may enter the first grade provided they enter at the beginning of the school year. Enrollment is required by age 6.

Listed below are the documents needed to register for kindergarten:
•    Birth Certificate:  Tennessee state law requires a legal birth certificate of all children entering school for the first time to verify name and age.  Please note that neither the “mother’s copy” or hospital certificate are acceptable.  A child who does not have their birth certificate will not be allowed to enter school in the fall.
•    A proof of residency:  Proof of residency documents must be a current utility bill with parent’s/legal guardian’s name and address on it.  (Example:  water, electric, gas)  If you reside with another family, the person you reside with must complete a notarized letter along with that person’s proof of residency document.
•    Immunization record and proof of physical exam:  Tennessee law requires that all children, unless otherwise exempted by law, show proof of immunization.  The law also requires that there should be a complete medical examination of children entering school for the first time.  These two requirements are part of the Tennessee Child Health Record form, which is available at the doctors’ offices.  School Attendance will not be permitted until the complete Child Health Record is brought to the school.
•    Child’s Social Security Number
•    Rutherford County Schools requires a proof of income for each working adult in the home (such as tax records, check stubs, child support income, etc.)
