Local company opens Nashville branch | Business, Roscoe Brown
At a time when many businesses are still trying to make it through the recession, one locally based company is expanding its offices and services.

Roscoe Brown, Inc. opened a Nashville branch by leasing a building near Interstate 65 on Armory Drive, but as business increased, so did the need for a more permanent location.

"We wanted a building that we could own, and we wanted one that would fit our needs better," said Norman Brown, president of Roscoe Brown.

After months of searching for the right property, the company relinquished its rental space and purchased a 4,000 square-foot building at 807 Poplar Avenue, between Murfreesboro Road and Elm Hill Pike in Nashville.

"This works out much better," Brown continued. "It's within about 5 minutes of all our suppliers, as it is centrally located and with nearby interstate access."

According to Abe Russell, general manager of Roscoe Brown's Nashville office, the new two-story office and operations space not only improves access to supplier partners and key thoroughfares, but also provides better infrastructure for employees, including a platform dock and drive-in door.

"We now have more functional space, which contributes to increased efficiency and productivity for our customers," he said. "For us, that's what this is all about. We invite our customers to stop by any time and talk to us in person about their needs."

Roscoe Brown even added six new employees even before the recession abated to meet continuing demand, according to a news release.

"We're growing and times are good," said Abe Russell, general manager of Roscoe Brown's Nashville office. "Even more importantly, we are strongly committed to the Nashville community. We are here to stay."

Back at its headquarters in Murfreesboro, Roscoe Brown has been able to better the company's offerings, Norman Brown explained.

"We've come through a slow spell that lasted much longer than we'd anticipated, but it gave us time to look at the business and see what changes we needed to do (in order) to move forward," he said. "When we come out of this, we'll be in much better shape."

By expanding services to include geothermal options, adding laptop computers inside each repair truck and equipping service technicians with smart phones, the company is able to perform much more efficiently.

"We feel like we needed to make the changes to try and be ahead of our competition, and we also wanted it to be easier for our customers to do business," Brown said, adding that Roscoe Brown recently launched a new website.

"Three or four years ago, during the building boom, we were just trying to keep up, but we didn't have time to focus on these things. The changes we're making now are going to help business turn around for us, so we're not necessarily waiting for the economy to turn around."
