Early Monday morning, St. Elizabeth Christian Church, of 321 W. McKnight Dr., was robbed and vandalized.
The front door of the church was damaged and $275 in cash, raised to aid Japanese relief funds, was stolen.
John Oliver, the parish priest, arrived at 5 a.m. to prepare for a morning service and promptly called the police after finding the damage. The desk drawers were pulled open, signs of an obvious break in.
Oliver is thankful that there was no hostility toward the church due to the fact no desecration took place.
“The person must of have been simply looking for cash,” he said.
In spite of the charity money that was stolen and the damage done to the church, those at St. Elizabeth do not hold resentment toward the robber and hope the money that was stolen will be used to meet worthwhile needs.
