Local businesses offering relief for flood victims

Kroger
Kroger is joining forces with the American Red Cross to provide aid to victims of the recent flooding. Effective immediately, customer donations will be accepted at all Middle Tennessee Kroger locations. All monies collected will be forwarded directly to the American Red Cross for relief efforts.

“We are thankful for this opportunity to work with the American Red Cross to lend a helping hand,” said Melissa Eads, Community Relations Manager for Kroger. “Kroger customers and associates have a history of giving during times of disasters such as these.”

To make a donation, Kroger customers can simply add any amount they wish to their total purchase at time of checkout. The amount of each donation will appear on the customer’s receipt as a contribution to the American Red Cross. 100% of the funds collected will be sent to the American Red Cross to be distributed to those in need.

Kroger is also supporting Second Harvest Food Bank in their relief efforts. Customers can drop off non-perishable food products in the barrels at the front of the store or they may purchase a pre-bagged assortment of non-perishable food items from any area Kroger store and drop it in the Food Bank barrel. The company is also donating water and other supplies to the relief effort.

To handle the increase in calls from customers, associates from across the country are manning phone lines to address policyholders’ immediate needs and claims adjusters are making their way to the hardest hit areas.

As of mid-day today, State Farm has received approximately 1700 homeowner’s and flood claims and an additional 500 auto claims in Tennessee.

Over 2,300 State Farm associates living and working in Tennessee are hard at work servicing thousands of policyholders. “Our first priority is the safety and well-being of those affected by the storms,” said Jeff Shay, Vice President of Operations.

As soon as it is safe to do so, policyholders should inspect their homes and automobiles for damage and contact their State Farm agent or call 1-800-SF-CLAIM to begin the claims process.
