A young up-and-coming basketball star at Middle Tennessee State University, Tina Stewart, was tragically murdered in her Murfreesboro apartment allegedly by her roommate.
She was the first in her family to go to college, setting a great example for her younger siblings.
Her family not only had to cope with the tragedy of her death, they also had to pay her burial expenses.
Little Guys Movers wanted to help.
MTSU also wanted to help, but it were restricted by NCAA rules regarding the monies an athlete can receive.
The NCAA does allow schools to establish a fund for their athletes in cases of dire emergency, and MTSU was able to help the family with its funeral costs by using that fund.
An NCAA approved fund has been established in Tina's name: the Tina Stewart Women’s Basketball MTSU Foundation fund, which will be used to replenish the school's depleted emergency fund.
Little Guys Movers, a moving company established in Denton, Texas, with a local branch in Murfreesboro, is urging the community to show their support for Tina.
They are prepared to donate $1,000 to the Tina Stewart Women's Basketball MTSU Foundation fund through their A Little Help Goes a Long Way Project.
Because Little Guys Movers is a strong believer in giving back to the community, they have set up a website for people to submit their stories, and others can vote for which cause they want the company to support.
Tina Stewart was one of the stories featured for the month of July. Go to whatmovesyou.org to cast your vote or submit your own story. |
