School Board Member Donald Jernigan plans to rebuild after a fire destroyed his house earlier this month, and he’s getting help from an unexpected source.
Local 8-year-old Kacie Leonard is holding a Chili Supper from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at Christiana Elementary School to raise funds for Jernigan and his family.
“She wanted to do it because that’s what Girl Scouts do,” Kacie’s mother Teena Leonard said.
Kacie wants to return Jernigan’s kindness to Buchanan Elementary School for his years of service on the school board, Teena said.
She also wants to thank him for recent improvements to the school, where she is in the third grade and member of Girl Scout Troop 1609.
The chili supper is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted for the Jernigan family.
