Effective Jan. 1, 2010, headphones will no longer be provided in the computer labs at Linebaugh Public Library System.
“Due to health concerns, we will no longer provide headphones,” said Rita Shacklett, LPLS director. “We want to maintain a healthy environment in your public library, especially during flu season.”
Heather Lanier, Circulation Supervisor, commented about the impact on the budget: “The cost to provide headphones at public computers systemwide would be around $1,200. In reviewing our past budgets and our current economy, we are constantly looking for ways to save money.”
Patrons are encouraged to bring their own personal headphones or earbuds with them for use in the computer labs. All computers have standard headphone jacks. Earbuds will be available for purchase at the circulation and reference desks for $1.
