Linebaugh Public Library now has something for teens every week! Teen Tuesdays are from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and will involve a different activity each week, from video game tournaments to book clubs to crafts and knitting projects.
“We’re looking for more ways to get 12-18 year olds into the library,” said Youth Services Assistant Roy Lee. “Unfortunately, we don’t have a regular ‘teen area’ at Linebaugh. To remedy this, we’re trying to set aside some time every week where teens will feel like they have a home.”
With Teen Tuesday, Linebaugh hopes to attract more members to their Teen Advisory Board (TAB), a group of teens who are responsible for implementing teen events, getting the word out to schools, and making suggestions for the Young Adult collection.
“We’ve made a lot of new friends and had some great times at our teen events,” says Kayla Anderson, president of the Linebaugh TAB. “Now, we don’t have to wait months to see each other, because there’s something fun to do together every week!”
She is also excited about some of the craft projects lined up for teens, especially learning how to knit.
Anderson said, “It’s nice to work with a group when you’re first learning to do something so you can get help and feedback when you need it!”
“Also, our Wii programming has been a big hit with the teens, so expect to see some gaming on the schedule at least once a month,” Lee added.
For a list of events scheduled for February, please check the teen page on the library’s website: www.linebaugh.org/teens.htm. The Linebaugh TAB often posts schedules and reminders of upcoming events on Facebook and Twitter.
Linebaugh Public Library is located at 105 W. Vine St. in Murfreesboro. The Library is the cornerstone of our community, enriching lives through free resources for learning, fun, and opportunity. For more information, call 615-893-4131 or visit www.linebaugh.org/teens.htm. |
