Linebaugh Library wants to cultivate more green thumbs in Rutherford County.

Gardeners new and old can learn more about plants, gardening, insects and other do-it-yourself nature activities by attending Linebaugh Public Library’s free Plant and Nature classes.

Linebaugh Public Library System began a new set of classes in January devoted to nature, gardening, plants, vegetables and more.

There have been classes on indoor plants, creating bird & butterfly gardens, composting and self-watering vegetable gardens. All classes are taught by Master Gardeners and have been coordinated by Rutherford County resident green thumb, Emily Arnold. Arnold has a degree in ornamental horticulture and landscape design as well as 30 years experience working with plants and flowers.

Classes are held on the last Saturday of each month in the Reading Room on the second floor.

The next class will be held from 10-11 a.m. May 30, when Keith Miller will discuss brambles, stonefruit and berries.

Future topics include gardening techniques, weed control and vegetables. All classes are free and open to the public; please bring a pen and paper. This program is being presented in conjunction with Read to Succeed’s One Book of Rutherford County.

Linebaugh Public Library is located at 105 W. Vine St. in Murfreesboro. The Library is the cornerstone of our community, enriching lives through free resources for learning, fun, and opportunity. For more information, call 615-893-4131 or visit www.linebaugh.org.
