In continuation of its gaming program series, Linebaugh Public Library System will offer two teen-only programs in January: Monday Night Football and Rock Band open play. On January 4, from 5-8 p.m., Linebaugh Library will host Monday Night Football. Teens will have the opportunity to play Madden NFL 09 on the Nintendo Wii, using the library’s 96” widescreen inflatable screen, as the Linebaugh Teen Advisory Board competes against YMCA.
Madden 09 allows multiple players to compete on the gridiron with realistic depictions of National Football League teams. Participants should register in advance in the Youth Services Department or by calling 615-893-4131, ext. 114. Smyrna Library will host a Rock Band open play session on January 9 at 2:30 p.m. Participants can rock out at the library, on Rock Band for the Nintendo Wii. Rock Band allows up to four players to play along to popular rock music songs, using guitar, bass guitar, drum, and microphone controllers. No registration is required. Both programs are for teens only (ages 12 to 18). These events are part of a program series, made possible thanks to a $5000 Community Building Through Video Games in Libraries grant, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library and Services Technology Act, administered by the Department of State, Tennessee State Library and Archives.
Both the Linebaugh and the Smyrna branches are partnering with the Rutherford County YMCA and the Smyrna Senior Center to offer programs that are geared for teens (ages 12-18), seniors (ages 55 and older), and families (all ages).
Future programs will feature information sessions on the Wii, Dance Dance Revolution competitions, and other popular video games. For a full list of gaming programming, visit www.linebaugh.org/gaming.htm. Linebaugh Public Library is located at 105 W. Vine St. in Murfreesboro; Smyrna Public Library is located at 400 Enon Springs Rd. W. in Smyrna. The Library is the cornerstone of our community, enriching lives through free resources for learning, fun, and opportunity.
