To the editor,
I lost my 2 ½-year-old, male yellow lab, ‘Barney’ on Dec. 15. It was my fault. I just didn’t get the lock on his crate locked properly and he got out. He was not wearing his collar. I have put up signs all around the MTSU area, have placed ads in this newspaper, and have also gotten to see how very important the PAWS (Pet Adoption Welfare Services) organization is to our community.
I am not looking for sympathy, but rather wanted to share with you what I have learned from this ordeal so you won’t ever experience the pain that I have. (1) There is a huge number of citizens in Murfreesboro who love animals and who care about the people who have lost their pets; (2) I never knew there were so many wonderful volunteers at PAWS who give their time to help people find their pets and also help families adopt animals that would otherwise be euthanized; (3) Get your pet “chipped” immediately and always have a collar on your pet at all times; (4) Get your pet spayed or neutered immediately if you don’t plan to breed a quality litter.
I couldn’t tell you how many people have called me and say “ I saw signs and I think I saw your dog.” Students from MTSU, elderly citizens, farmers and others have called me … I even had a church, North Rutherford Church of Christ, list my loss in their weekly newsletter. Murfreesboro Police and the MTSU security were also very supportive. THANK YOU!!! TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE HELPED. I CAN’T TELL HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO ME.
Barney wasn’t just your ordinary yellow lab. He was bred to be the very best in field competition and would have competed at the master level this spring. Whoever has him now has no idea what they have. He is not a housedog, but rather a retrieving machine and very handsome. If you have him, please call me and I will make it worth your while. No questions, I just want my dog back. I can’t tell you how much I am going to miss him.
