November is the time of year for Thanksgiving and the blessing of the celebration of the festive season. We are thankful to God for our plentiful crops. Thanksgiving Day is a communal celebration marked as a sense of gratitude people feel for all the good things in life that we enjoy. The tradition of Thanksgiving continues in the form of family reunions and feasting, a warm conversation and that special feeling that we get when good memories are being formed. This is the way that the Thanksgiving holiday should be remembered. The entire family sits at the table during dinner and offer prayers to our Lord for his grace. Relatives who live in different parts of the country come together and celebrate this festive season.
Thanksgiving is a time for watching the beautiful fall foliage hide in preparation for winter, the approaching of the Yuletide Season and remembering our precious heritage. In 1863 President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November “a day for Thanksgiving and prayer.” At this wonderful time of the year, we reflect on the many blessings that we have enjoyed this past year. This festive season should remind us on how well we are blessed.
The traditional carved turkey adorns every dinner table during the feast and accompanied by delicious dressing, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce and green beans. I am glad that we have a national holiday that helps many of us get away from the everyday race of life and encourages us to remember the commitments and sacrifices that our forefathers made to provide us with our promised land.
