To the editor:

Wow! $84,000 in this year’s Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign—an increase of more than $20,000 from last year! What incredible generosity from Rutherford County! We want to thank everyone for your time, service and donations.

Thanks to staff and board members … to all the groups, churches, families and individuals who rang bells … and to Kroger, Kmart, WalMart, Sam’s Club and Hobby Lobby. Thanks to Cathi Rowlison, chief kettle-campaign organizer … to bell-ringer schedulers Nancy Long, Maureen Weimer, Ginny Dykes, Tara Hammrich and Rachel Dix … and to bell-ringer recruiters John Dietrich, Kelli Beam, Anne Henslee, Latoya Stone, Chuck Akers, Richard Stone, Wanda Woodard, Jessica Justice, Amanda Oliver, Gentry Wheat, Sherry Carpenter, Kristin Demos, PD Mynatt, Tony Hicks, Joey Monteleone, Bob Luster and Katie Peachey. Thanks to Chuck Lewis and FirstBank staff for counting the donations and to Mike Pirtle and the Murfreesboro Post. And a special thanks goes to Andrew Oppmann, publisher, Elisa White, photographer, and The Daily News Journal for the wonderful 12-Days-of-Christmas series.

Most of all, thanks to all of you who dropped money into the kettles. You will make (and have already made) 2009 a happier new year for many who are in need right here at home.

Ring a bell? We hope you will … in 2009! Happy New Year!

Captains Joe and Melissa Anderson, corps officers
Tom Tozer, advisory board president
