Letter to the Editor: Possible bar scenario courtesy of legislature

To the editor:
We can all thank God and breathe a sigh of relief that our State Legislators have finally vacated the State Capitol and returned to their local towns throughout Tennessee. Given more time, who knows what other strange ideas they could have come up with to enact.

One of their gems of wisdom went into effect on July 14. That being the case, here is a conversation that we might hear in a local bar.

Bartender: Evening sir. Can I get you something to drink?

Customer: Nope. Don't want nothin'. Cain't drink totin' my revolver.

Bartender: Oh? You've got a gun. I wouldn't have known.

Customer: Yup. Carry it everywhere I go.

B: So, if you don't want anything to drink and I couldn't serve you, just why did you come in here tonight?

C: 'Cause I got a constitutional rite to carry my gun into bars. Them guys in Nashville said I could.

B: Hmm. Other than that, is there some reason you think bringing your gun in here is going to help something? Are you afraid somebody's going to do you harm?

C: Nope. I'm not worried about me, but somebody in here might need 'pertection.

B: Anybody in particular?

C: Nope. Don't know a soul in here, but you never know when a problem might come up.

B: And what would you do if somebody caused a problem?

C: Don't 'rightly know, but I'll be ready.

Duke, you are totally wrong. 1) The Constitution gave us a right to carry guns. 2) The legislators have just upheld the Constitution. 3) Criminals don't care what the laws are; they are going to carry guns into bars anyway. 4) You have NO right to say I can't carry a gun to protect myself. Since you want the right to say I can't carry a gun into a bar, I right the right to say that you can't go to a restaurant and then get back in your car to drive home. You might run over someone and kill them. GET THE PICTURE? Where will making laws to take away Constitutional rights end? Look at Obama now. He doesn’t care about the Constitution; he wants you to tell on your neighbor if they disagree with him. Sounds like to me we are moving to communism or a Nazi state.

I think the point he was trying to make beamer, was why would you want to go to a bar and not drink. It's the whole point of a bar. Or further, it's not realistic to think that permit holders who are carrying are going to go to a bar and not drink.

Also, I'd love to hear examples of how Obama is ignoring the constitution. I'm willing to bet you have nothing to back that claim, just Glen Beck hysteria. Further, you clearly have no idea what Communism is and I have no words for the Nazi state comment. Last I checked, we weren't trying to eradicate Jews in this country. Maybe you are, but thankfully you're the exception and not the rule.

Outrageous comments like that only paint the extremest gun advocates as ignorant and incapable of exercising the proper judgment required to responsibly handle a gun. Basically, it does nothing but destroy your credibility and the credibility of your cause and proves that TN will give anyone a gun. A very wise man once told me, when you compare someone to Hitler in an argument, you automatically lose.

You really should turn off the TV and go live. I think you'll find a lot of the things you were so sure about are wrong. Namely, everything Fox News says. Remember, they're there for rates that translate to ad dollars, not to report facts. Unfortunately, hate and alarmism always translates to ratings and ad dollars.

jg13, you have got me pegged down to my socks. You must be one of those psychics I see on TV. Actually you are as far off from the truth as you possibility get. Go to the White House web site and look at their blog. It has been stated there since last Wednesday. Obama’s cronies have said “If you hit me I’m going to hit back twice as hard”. What about Obama’s storm troopers (Acorn) with readymade signs starting fights and getting preferred seating at town hall meetings? As far as Hitler, read a few historical books about Hitler and the Nazis. Try fighting in WWII and then try to tell me about it.
It only goes to show that your side of the debate or extremist side attacks the character of people when they have no leg to stand on or facts to prove their side. And to educate you on Nazism, the left was taken over by Hitler because it was the weaker party to impose his views on. I have been to Israel and really love the people there. Have you?
Have you ever set down and watched FOX? Do you have specific instances of wrong doing by the news channel? Is Fox in the pockets of Obama? Does any Fox newscaster say that they get a tingle up their leg when Obama speaks like Chris Matthews the news anchor on NBC/MSNBC did? I don't know about you but I lose all respect for a newsman when he starts saying something like that. Maybe you would be more enlightened if you watched Fox more. Then you wouldn't be so blind to what is happening to our country and you wouldn't be lead around by the nose from those on the left.

Beamer,

Do I really need to start listing the things Fox News either totally lies about or at the very least, misleads viewers about? I easily could but it would be an extremely long list. A simple Google search will pull up thousands of examples. It's not like Fox hides the fact that their an agenda driven organization that forgoes journalist integrity in favor of right wing propaganda. Even some of their executives have admitted as much. It's not compelling news, it's entertainment. Hate and fear mongering entertainment designed to make rich Republicans richer. Most watchers don't bother doing the fact checking and they take full advantage of that. I prefer compelling news from multiple, credible sources, not from ratings hounds who take their audience for fools who are sucked in by screaming fits.

To say Chris Matthews is any different from Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck and the like is ridiculous. They're all cheerleaders for their views, just on opposite ends of the spectrum. None of it is remotely factual. The biggest difference is, as a Democrat, I know Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, etc, etc, are full of it. Unfortunately, Republicans don't have that same B.S. filter. After all, your leader is a drug addicted talk show host. I guess it goes to show that Republicans have become "the weaker party to impose views on."

By the way, it's the insurance and drug company lobbyists that are crashing the town hall meetings. No one is disrupting the meetings to tell Obama what a great job he's doing.

meeting about obama's great job he's doing? where's that meeting? oh, it's at the white house. i did hear that the toilet paper use at the white house has gone down since obama's in. when asked why, he said that's ok, i'll keep using the Constitution.
