To the editor:

I know this is an election year, and I also know that politicians will say and do anything and everything to grab your attention to try get your vote. However, I just experienced the lowest of the low in a politician’s attempt to get my vote.

I just had a birthday, and birthdays are usually fun and happy occasions for family and friends. However, my local representative spoiled the whole day for me!!! The day before my birthday I get a birthday card in the mail from my elected representative. The card was stamped at government expense (my tax dollar). It was no doubt printed and all put together at Government expense (my tax dollar), and no doubt the person putting it all together and doing the research was also paid a salary at Government expense (my tax dollar).

At the very minimum that birthday card probably cost me $10. If everybody in his district gets a birthday card, paid with taxpayer dollars, we can only imagine how much tax money is spent on birthday cards alone. I call that more than wasteful spending–just like Bredesen’s Bunker, it is a misuse and abuse of tax dollars!.

The thing that is even more scary is the fact that he knew when my birthday was. That means he was snooping around in my personal information file. One wonders what other information he gathered and how is he going to use that. After receiving that birthday card (that I paid for) I would never ever consider voting for him no matter what he was running for.

I love birthday cards from family and friends, but from a politician I don’t even know, it is downright disgusting, and I would like to ask him to remove my name from his birthday card list.
