To the editor,
As we plan Thanksgiving celebrations with our families and friends, let’s give special thanks for our safe plentiful food, clothing, housing, medicines, fuel and other products that improve our way of life. While giving thanks, we should acknowledge the tremendous partnership required to make this possible. Some of those responsible are the producers (farmers and ranchers), processors, brokers, shippers advertisers wholesalers and retailers. This cooperative network also includes our farm workers, researchers, inspectors, agribusinesses and the consumer. We call this vital farm-city partnership “Partners in Progress” and recognize that by working together significant contributions to our health and well-being have been accomplished.
The President of the United States annually proclaims the week leading up to and including Thanksgiving Day as National Farm-City Week in appreciation for this farm-city partnership. This year, 2008, Farm City Week is Nov. 21 through Nov. 27. Please remember to say thanks to our rural and urban helpers.
