To the editor:

I just read the article about the thief victimizing the 99-year-old sick woman, and realized, again, that I am real tired of bad news. So I thought I might share with you something I have intended to say for some time.

This time last year my 88-year-old mother fell coming out of Goody’s at Stones River Mall. Immediately two women stopped and picked her up and held her while I went to get the car and call an ambulance. A passing nurse stopped and tested her vitals and stayed with us.

About 20-30 people stood around and watched, quietly, for what seemed like the eternity it took for the ambulance to arrive. The ambulance and firemen arrived and took good, sympathetic care of her and left for the hospital.

As the crowd dispersed, a lone man from the back of the crowd came toward me with her mink coat and red purse and gave them to me. The purse had several hundred dollars in it. It probably would have been a couple of days before I realized that they were missing.

I wondered how many places in the world people would have been so kind and concerned. Makes me glad to live in Murfreesboro.

Mother is well and happy.
