Officials in Murfreesboro city government should be proud of their recent award from the Government Finance Officer Association for outstanding budget preparation and presentation.
The association is a national organization dedicated to promotion of professional government management, and Murfreesboro earned its highest honor, the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
The award is presented annually to governments that prepare budget documents of the very highest quality.
Murfreesboro was one of 20 local governments in Tennessee to achieve the honor this year. The state of Tennessee also earned the same award for its budget work.
Citizens of Murfreesboro should be proud of the commitment their leaders have made to public transparency and accountability in the budget process — Tennessee Comptroller Justin P. Wilson, state Sen. Bill Ketron, state Reps. Dawn White, Mike Sparks, Rick Womick and Joe Carr.
