On Tuesday, June 21 and Tuesday, June 28 the Primary Care and Hope Clinic is hosting "Secrets of the Supermarket: Making Healthy Choices."

The free educational workshops are designed to teach participants how to make healthy choices when planning meals and shopping for groceries. Each session begins at 1 p.m. in the Education Classroom of the Primary Care and Hope Clinic.

The program will be led by registered dietician, Vivian Bossong. Bossong, Diabetes and Health Educator with the Primary Care and Hope Clinic, has more than 18 years of experience in weight management, nutrition services and diabetes counseling.

“It’s often challenging to try to plan healthy meals due to the overwhelming amount of information available,”  Bossong said. “Often, foods may be marketed as healthy but contain hidden calories, fats and sodium. We will explore how to look past the marketing information and truly understand which foods are best for a healthy lifestyle.”

Those attending the program will learn how to understand food labels, discover the components of a healthy meal plan and be able to identify nutrient dense foods found throughout the supermarket. Examples of affordable, healthy food choices found in local supermarkets will be provided.

To register for the June 21 or June 28 class, call the Primary Care and Hope Clinic at 615-893-9390.
