NASHVILLE – They’ll come by plane and they’ll come by bus, but by Monday afternoon all units of the National Guard’s 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment should be back home on Tennessee soil.

More than 300 Guardsmen from units in Knoxville, Lebanon, Smyrna and Columbia, start arriving at the National Guard Volunteer Training Site in Smyrna at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, with the last scheduled in at 1 p.m.

This will wrap up the return of the regiment with the exception of 15-20 individual Soldiers handling administrative issues who are expected to follow the main body within 10 days.

*  125 Soldiers from Knoxville and 30 from Lebanon are due to roll in to Smyrna by bus at 7 a.m.

*  120 Soldiers from Columbia, also traveling by bus, are scheduled at 12:30 p.m.

*  35 Soldiers from Smyrna, arriving by C-130 aircraft, are due to land at 1 p.m.

The Tennesseans are currently undergoing out-processing at Camp Shelby, Miss. They will complete out-processing in Smyrna, and then be transported to their respective armories two to three hours after reaching Smyrna.

National Guard officials emphasize that returning units have been arriving up to an hour ahead of schedule.

The regiment’s 3,400 soldiers began returning home from Iraq in mid-June, six months earlier than expected. They were mobilized in December 2009.

The public is invited to be at the Smyrna training site to welcome the Guardsmen home.

I wish they would bring all home from all over the world. Germany and France just posted record gains in their economy. from us purchasing products from them. They can put money into there economy easier they do not have to spend on the military they have us to provide for them
