In the first round of girl’s basketball regional play Friday night, the Riverdale girls (29-1) opened up with a sharp offense, a well-run press and an effective man-to-man defense.

Their opponent, the Lincoln County Lady Falcons (14-15) opened in a zone, had trouble from the beginning and eventually lost every quarter and the game 72-39.

Riverdale looked ready to play from the opening tip, and every girl who played in the first half scored.

The Riverdale passing game (especially Alexa Middleton) was very crisp and the team’s shot selection was excellent.

Eventually nine players scored and Riverdale will advance to play Lawrence County (29-2) in the 7:30 game Monday night at La Vergne High School.

The 6 p.m. game will feature Siegel (24-7) versus Blackman (22-5).
