Monday night’s selection show for the NCAA women’s tournament carried a pleasant surprise for the Lady Raiders.
Middle Tennessee was selected as a No. 11 seed in the Big Dance. They will face the 6-seed Georgia Bulldogs in Auburn Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
This is the 14th trip to the tournament for the program and the fifth in Rick Insell’s six seasons as head coach. This is the second time in the 14 appearances the team has received an at-large bid.
The Raiders have faced Georgia twice under Insell, winning one of the two matchups.
Middle finished the year with a 23-7 record, losing to Arkansas State in the Sun Belt tournament. Three of the team’s six regular season losses came to teams ranked in the top 25.
The winner of Sunday night’s game will play the winner of 3-seed Florida State and 14-seed Samford. |
