Mallory Bishop led MTSU with a 1-under 71 and the Blue Raiders fired a 11-over 299 to take the opening-round lead at the 2007 South Alabama Invitational at the Azalea City Golf Course.

The Blue Raiders own a two-shot lead over Jacksonville State and a four-shot lead over third-place Winthrop heading into Tuesday's final round. Bishop's 71 is second overall and represents a career best.

Bishop led four Blue Raiders who shot in the 70s in the first round of the two-round event, which concludes Tuesday. Taryn Durham is second on the team with a 2-over 74 in the first round which is tied for eighth overall.

Maggie McGill carded a 75, followed by Tasha Gough's 79. Clara Leathers rounded out the scoring for MTSU with an 80.
