|The City of La Vergne has been awarded with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
This award is the 17th straight for the city, Finance Director Phillis Rogers said.
“We have tried for the award for 17 straight years and have received it for each of those years,” she said. “This is a good reflection on the city as well as our auditors Yeary Howell & Associates, staff and management. We are pleased that we are in good financial shape and that this award certifies that fact.”
The award was based on La Vergne’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the year that ended June 30.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for excellence in state and local government financial reporting. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This report must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.
A Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year only. Rogers believes the current year financial report will also reflects the same professional style of reporting.
“We believe that our current year comprehensive annual financial report continues to meet the Certificate of Achievement Program’s requirements,” she said. “We will submit it to the GFOA to determine its eligibility for another certificate for fiscal year ending June 2011.”
“Congratulations to our Finance Department for again being recognized with the Certificate of Achievement,” City Administrator Steve Mayer said. “Ms. Rogers is a notable and award-winning professional among her peers.”
