The La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Tuesday night to appoint Bruce Richardson as the city administrator.

His appointment as city administrator of La Vergne is effective immediately.

“Mr. Richardson has been the interim city administrator for the past year, and I have witnessed a very talented leader who has a lot of love for our city,” Mayor Senna Mosley said. “He has served La Vergne with a great deal of integrity, strong moral character, and brings to the city a new level of professionalism. I sincerely hope that he will be a part of our community for another 20 years.”

The city administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of La Vergne, including financial oversight, human resources, and public safety oversight, as well as management of public works, water, sewer, parks and recreation, engineering, and codes.

On April 3, 2012, Richardson was named interim city administrator by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

He has been working for the city since June of 1993.

Originally, Richardson was hired as the assistant to the city administrator, but he was transferred to the Finance Department to work as the accounts payable clerk. After working in the Finance Department for almost a year, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen appointed him as the city recorder in August 1994.

“The city of La Vergne has been my work home for nearly 20 years,” Richardson said. “I have seen the city triple in size and with the large growth here, there have been more infrastructure needs, public safety needs, and zoning and codes requirements, as well as additional services, programs and activities the city offers to its diverse population. It has been my pleasure to be a part of La Vergne as it has evolved from a small town to a vibrant mid-size city, and I look forward to helping it grow in the future.”

Mosley agreed, saying, “Bruce has been witness to great growth and some of the most pivotal moments in our city’s history. The history he brings to the table is incredible. Bruce is invaluable as a source of information both for board members and citizens of La Vergne.”

Richardson graduated in February as a certified municipal finance officer through a series of 11 courses offered by the Tennessee Office of the Comptroller and the Municipal Technical Advisory Service.

He is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Tennessee Association of Municipal Clerks and Recorders, Tennessee City Management Association and the Tennessee Government Finance Officers Association.

Originally from Plymouth, Vt., Richardson moved to Murfreesboro in 1984 and attended Middle Tennessee Christian School. He is a graduate of Harding University, where he graduated in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Richardson and his wife, Becky, have four children.

Richardson is city administrator of La Vergne, effective immediately.
