La Vergne Alderman Dennis Waldron, working with the Smyrna/La Vergne Assistance Coalition, has raised hundreds of dollars to assist La Vergne residents with their water bills.

“With the water and sewer rates increasing, some of our residents just can’t afford to pay their bill,” Waldron said. “That’s why I took the initiative and started raising water to help them.”

Water was increased nearly 50 percent last year and will got up another three percent next month. Sewer, which also increased last year, will rise another 6 percent.
