| Actress Vivica A. Fox made a cameo appearance in Murfreesboro recently to film scenes for an upcoming movie, “Junkyard Dog.”
Fox was filmed at On Target shooting range on Thompson Lane, said range training coordinator Ron Ralston.
“Junkyard Dog,” directed by Kim Bass, is a psychological thriller about an FBI Special Agent who travels to rural Tennessee to track down a college coed who's been abducted by a serial killer.
“They were shooting certain scenes,” Ralston said, explaining Fox played the role of an FBI agent.
Fox stars in Lifetime’s “Missing” series where she also portrays a federal agent. She also starred in the “Kill Bill” movies, “Kicking It Old School,” “The Hard Corps,” “Independence Day” and other films and TV shows.
Directors of Fox’s movie learned about On Target through La Vergne Police Chief Ted Boyd whom they met several years ago when Hank Williams Jr. filmed the introduction of “Monday Night Football” in Murfreesboro.
The directors needed a firing range for the film so Boyd suggested On Target.
“They were tickled with it,” Boyd said, explaining the directors talked with the owners to rent out the range late one night for filming.
Because Boyd served as a SWAT Team sniper, the directors asked for his help during the On Target scenes.
Fox’s character practiced shooting at the range.
“She was shooting blanks. I’m doing the shooting for her off-camera,” Boyd said, explaining when she needed a precise shot, “I shot the target.”
Before shooting the scene, everything was explained so Fox wouldn’t be nervous.
“It was a take the first time we did it,” he said.
Boyd described Fox as being “very pleasant, very high-spirited, sociable, just like one of us. We fit in real well. She was very personable and talkative. It was quite comfortable.”
The directors allowed Boyd a small part in the film, when filming at a junkyard in Fairview and they needed a stand-in for an FBI agent.
Boyd said he played the role of an FBI supervisor and motioned agents around the junkyard scenes. His scene “probably will be short and sweet but I’ll get to say I was there. It’s been fun — an experience you usually don’t get to do. It was interesting to see how they put it all together.”
He was glad Fox and the movie crew filmed in Middle Tennessee because of the variety of scenes available around the Nashville area.
Both Boyd and Ralston intend to watch the movie, Boyd for his role and Ralston for the On Target location.
“We’ll watch just to see our name,” Ralston said. “This is the place you want to use.”
This is not Boyd’s first role in a movie. The teen Christian film “Summer of Courage” was filmed several years ago in La Vergne. Boyd operated a police boat to chase the “bad guys,” participated in a shoot-out and took the “bad guys” into custody.
Unfortunately, Boyd hasn’t received any “big money yet. As a matter of fact, I haven’t seen any money at all.”
But he’s not complaining. He’s just glad he got to film alongside Fox.
