Kitten on the Keys is an evening of storytelling interwoven with the musical stylings of Jonny Gowow.

It will be performed at Murfreesboro Little Theatre on August 22-23 at 8 p.m. This evening explores the complexities and charm of growing up Southern and what we do with our past in order to shape our futures. Think Prairie Home Companion bought some cocktails at the bar for Flannery O’Connor....and this is what the rest of the evening might look like. Playful as two kittens on the keys, this show embraces the flaws and humor of Southern sensibilities and promises to be unlike any other theatrical event this season.

When Murfreesboro music legend, Jonathon Gower, teamed up with Kara Kemp for the United We Style fashion show fundraiser event in the spring of this year, they never imagined it would culminate in an original theatrical collaboration.

Kara Kemp manages Tangerine Salon and Spa and is a Murfreesboro native with 17 years of theatrical experience receiving her BS in theatre from the University of Tennessee, working as a professional actor and serving as the Managing Director of The Actors Co-op in Knoxville. It seemed only fitting to pair back up with Jonathon Gower on the stage where they first met, Murfreesboro Little Theatre, and subsequently where she performed her first play ever back in the 1980s.

Kittens on the Keys will showcase three original songs created by Jonathon Gower as well as previously unheard numbers written by Kemp’s grandmother over 70 years ago sprinkled with some entertaining surprises. Gower says in regards to deciding to work on this project he was, “enraptured with Kemp’s ability to tell a heartfelt story and wanted to provide a musical framework to showcase her stories.”

Kara Kemp is grateful to finally be getting these stories to the stage. She says on collaborating with Jonathon, “My family history is so rich with music...but I can’t play an instrument if my hair were on fire! To be able to add this element to this event was essential, and I am simply humbled to pair up with such a talented artist as Jonathon.”
