The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that Detective Sgt. Ron Killings has been rehired.

RCSO released the following simple statement:

"Detective Sgt. Ron Killings was today rehired and will soon resume his duties as a supervisor in RCSO’s detective division."

Killings was going an alleged 71 mph two seconds before he struck an 11-year-old girl July 17, 2007 on Bradyville Pike. He was responding to a call for help from another officer.

Tennessee Highway Patrol testing of a computer in former Killings’ car showed “his speed was 62.8 mph” when his air bag deployed after striking Lakeisha White, said appointed prosecutor Joe Baugh of Franklin.

Killings was cleared of wrong doing in a trial this spring and other charges were dropped afterward.

Arnold should take office now and get the bitter old man out before he can do more damage.

"Killings was going an alleged 71 mph two seconds" are you trying to say a computer lied? Are you really attacking the computers credibility? Man up and say it like it was!

So it says he was going 71 2 seconds before he hit her, but his airbad deployed and showed his speed was 62.8! did hitting a child slow his car down that much!? It may have been like it was, Macgyver, but he was cleared of all charges...

He was justifiably going 71, following all proper police procedure. She was racing her friends back home ("last one there is a rotten egg") and she was in the lead. She never stopped. She never even hesitated. She darted right out in front of him.

"He was responding to a call for help from another officer."

That's what I'd say too - and stick to it!

They proved it beyond a reasonable doubt. What else do you want?

A corrupt lame duck Jones rehired one of his good old boys. I am glad he lost and were at long last rid of him.

If he was doing everything right then why did the county pay so much to settle the lawsuits?

They paid a total of $220K to about 10-12 relatives. That's pretty low for the death of a child. Since this state is a "comparative fault" state, it seems clear that most of the fault was assessed to the kid.

Welcome to Rutherford County. Where everyone is guilty even when proven innocent. Please let's hold the city, county and state completely responsible and place zero blame on the child, the mother or any other family members. This is America! I should be allowed to run through the streets, in the dark, without paying attention and it have no consequences. While we are at it, let's sue the state on behalf of every drunk driver killed in an accident. Or anyone that couldn't swim that has drowned in these waters! Give me my freedom, but never hold me accountable for my FREE WILL!!!

I feel bad for the family. I know what it is like to lose someone you love because THEY made a poor choice. But at some point we all have to take responsibility for our actions. That includes letting kids play on busy, known to be unsafe, sections of our roads.
