Trial was set Oct. 13 for a former sheriff’s sergeant charged with reckless homicide of an 11-year-old girl.
Former Sgt. Ron Killings was indicted in February for reckless homicide of Lakeisha White of Hopkinsville, Ky., filing a false police report and tampering with evidence.
Reckless homicide is defined as the reckless killing of another.
Lakeisha was killed July 17 when struck by Killings’ patrol vehicle while he was on-duty. He resigned from the sheriff’s office after being indicted.
During a court hearing Monday, defense attorney Terry Fann asked for a trial date.
Former District Attorney Joe Baugh Jr., who was appointed special prosecutor, told Circuit Court Judge Don Ash he believed the trial would take five days.
Besides the homicide charge, Killings was accused of concealing a bottle of liquor so the container would not be used as evidence. Also, he was accused of giving a false statement to Murfreesboro Police investigating the crash.
