Jurors from Hamilton County will hear the case against a former sheriff’s detective charged in a traffic crash that took the life of an 11-year-old Kentucky girl.

Former Detective Sgt. Ron Killings is charged with reckless homicide of Lakeisha White of Hopkinsville, Ky. Lakeisha died after being struck by Killings’ car in a crash July 17, 2008 on Bradyville Pike.

In an order filed Monday, Circuit Court Judge David Bragg ruled the jury will be chosen from Hamilton County instead of Rutherford County.

Killings’ attorneys Terry Fann and Ben Parsley asked Bragg to use a jury from another county because of extensive pretrial publicity. Bragg originally ruled he would seek a Rutherford County judge but after reviewing the record and another case, he decided to use the Hamilton County jurors.

About 200 potential jurors will be summoned at 9 a.m. Oct. 13, the first day of trial. After 12 jurors and two alternate jurors are selected, they will be returned to Rutherford County for the trial. They will be sequestered during trial.

Opening statements are expected to begin Oct. 14.
