A 17-year-old, Alabama girl was found safe at the Target Store on Highway 96 Thursday night, according to the U.S. Marshal Service.
Her alleged kidnapper was arrested by the Tennessee Highway Patrol about 6:30 Thursday night along Interstate 24 at Manchester.
Dwight C. Phillips, 30, was wanted by the Lauderdale County, Alabama Sheriff’s Department for Kidnapping, 2nd Degree and Interference with Custody.
Phillips, of Hermitage, Tennessee, is an acquaintance of the girl’s family in Florence, Alabama. He is reported to have picked up the girl from her home in Florence on Tuesday, Dec. 30. The girl may have gone willingly, but was later allegedly held against her will. U.S. Marshals were asked for assistance and began working to locate the two last night. The Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Nashville, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Murfreesboro Police Department worked jointly to locate and arrest Phillips tonight.
