Vowing to fight for a self defense law which will protect law abiding citizens who find it necessary to use force in defense of self ,loved ones and family, local correctional officer and community activist Kevin Fisher has officially announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 49th House District in the state of Tennessee.

Fisher, 42, will be seeking the Republican nomination to unseat Democratic incumbent Kent Coleman, who has held the seat since 2002.The election will be held Aug. 7, 2008.

Fisher is a native Tennesean, was born in Knoxville and attended several high schools before graduating from Niagara falls High in 1984.He later attended college at MTSU and Trevecca. His father is a retired jazz musician who has toured with the likes of BB King, Muddy Waters and rhythm and blues acts like the Commodores and War, while his stepmother is a former DHS appointee of then Governor Lamar Alexander. He has four sisters, and is a divorced “Dad and Mom” to his son. He credits his Dad, a Vietnam veteran, for teaching him about responsibility, duty and loyalty to family and community, and respect for Second Amendment rights.

Fisher has been involved in several local issues and demonstrations. In April, 2007 Fisher led a rally in defense of family and Christian values, which he believes are the core of his campaign. Fisher, a self described conservative believes as Christians, we have a moral responsibility to show concern and care for those who are less fortunate. “How can we as a people claim to love God and purport to be living Jesus’ greatest commandment, when we send billions of dollars in aid all over the world as people right here in Tennessee is suffering? Is this “Loving thy neighbor?” Fisher has also led a rally of local parents who challenged the local school system on behalf of low income families and those living on fixed incomes, saying “Sometimes in life, you have to do what’s right. Not because it’s politically correct or opportunistic, but because it’s the right thing to do.”

Fisher is an ardent opponent of the sales tax on food and has vowed to fight for its reduction and elimination. A former President of MTSU Right to life, Fisher is pro life.
