Ketron announces Safe Schools grants here

State Senator Bill Ketron today announced that Rutherford County Schools and Murfreesboro City Schools are set to receive Safe Schools Grants from the State of Tennessee to be used for school safety purposes. The grant comes from legislation approved by the Tennessee General Assembly enabling schools to tap into federal grant money earmarked for school safety.

"I am pleased that our local schools will receive these funds to make our schools safer," said Senator Ketron. "This money will go a long way in this effort. I also congratulate our local school officials for their work on this grant."

According to Ketron, Rutherford County Schools will receive $85,800 and Murfreesboro City Schools will receive $21,200. The money will be used to purchase and update monitoring equipment for buses and to install communications equipment.

"Making our schools safer is very important. Students and teachers need to feel secure in order to maximize learning. We are proud that this grant has been made available to our community and will continue to do everything we can to keep our schools safe," Senator Ketron concluded.
