Kathryn Galbraith Cowan, age 80, of Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011.
She was a native of the Mars Hill Community near Spring City, Tenn.
Kathryn was the daughter of the late Charles Chapman Galbraith and Stella Coulter Galbraith. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Cowan Puckett.
Mrs. Cowan is survived by her husband, Donald J. Cowan of Murfreesboro; daughter, Julia Cowan and her husband Geoff Roper of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Donald L. Cowan and his wife Jean Prewitt of Charlotte, N.C.; and sister, Mary Galloway of Spring City, Tenn.
Graveside service will be at Noon, EST, Saturday at Spring City Cemetery in Spring City, Tenn. with Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, 1488 Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
Mrs. Cowan earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and her master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She was certified to teach English, History and Biology. Prior to her retirement, she taught at Eagleville High School.
Kathryn is remembered for her kind spirit, love of literature, and devotion to family. Her love of animals, plants, and nature and passion for doing the right thing were part of her moral compass.
