Shawn Kaplan has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for the 19th District Commissioner position on the Rutherford County Commission. The current incumbent commissioner is Joyce Ealey.

"I view myself as a defender of taxpayers, and will try to shine light on inequalities in taxation and on wasteful spending," Kaplan said. "I will strongly target agendas and programs that don’t produce any savings or any new revenues. It is time we get serious about the future of our County for the immediate and future residents.

“Citizens deserve to have more say in the issues of the day. Your voice should be heard, and you should actively be asked your opinions about issues that impact us all. Commissioners should vote your agenda, not their own.”

A longtime resident of the Murfreesboro, Kaplan was born in New York, raised on a dairy farm in Vermont, relocated to Tennessee in 1993, earned a Basic Engineering Degree at Tennessee Technological University and graduated with a Bachelor of University Studies degree from MTSU.

Kaplan is an avid hunter and enjoys playing golf, reading, spending quality time with family and friends and volunteering in the community.

He is an active member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and past member of Murfreesboro Young Professionals.

Kaplan, and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Riverbend with their two children, Eliana 4 and Stella one month, and attend Christian Life Church where they are on the leadership team.
