Juveniles were accused of killing a pet cat by stomping its head onto the road Monday afternoon on Crossway Avenue, Murfreesboro Police reported Wednesday.

Brittiny Clark of Crossway Drive owned the cat, Officer Chris Pitts reported. A friend of Clark’s saw the youths drag the cat on a leash into the road where they killed it.

The friend identified some of the suspects to police.

Clark contacted the Pet Adoption Welfare Services who advised her to file a police report.

People with information about the suspects may call Murfreesboro Police at 893-1311.

Charge them!!!

By: enoughisenough on 12/17/09
What the hell? These animals will be killing people next. Their parents need to beat the crap out of them and then let the police lock them up for this atrocity! But no, I'm sure they are just misunderstood youths who didn't know stomping on a cat's head would hurt it...

Wonder how liberals handle discipline in this situation? Probably "Now Jimmy, you know you should not do that so please do not do it again. OK? Good, lets go get some kool-aid."

By: attagirl on 12/17/09
Sorry folks, but our juvenile law does not allow us to sentence juveniles to jail. We can order them to treatment, but not jail.

By: lduke on 12/17/09
Who said anything about sentencing them? They can be held in Juvenile Detention until their hearing. It's not much but at the very least maybe they could experience some steel bar therapy over Christmas.

By: ntheknow on 12/17/09
ItsGood....Liberals would handle it accordingly...Conservatives would "sugar coat" it and then want to create a new tax to worsen matters...

By: ItsGood on 12/17/09
ntheknow, nope - liberals would want to be the ones to create a tax to form a government body to oversee the situation; Acorn to manage a program to help. Conservatives want discipline in schools, a family to raise children to show respect and to teach right from wrong, and teachers to be allowed to help a child with issues.

By: Tama73 on 12/17/09
wow attagirl thank you verry much for us simpletons did not know that. you must be very educated. we are merely local boobs who know not what we say....you sound like yoou're in your 1st year of law school honey.calm down

By: abide on 12/17/09
Nothing will happen, but if it was their cat they would want sombody in jail.

By: koolaidkid on 12/17/09
Wow , we're still doing the Liberal hating thing here ? You know , serial killers start off by killing animals , I sure hope these kids get help !

By: DMKW on 12/17/09
Something is really broken with these delinquents. I'm sure we'll be seeing them in the news in the future after they kill someone. A lack of empathy for other living beings is the problem. Wish I knew what the answer is... Hopefully they'll end up being locked up for something as adults before they kill an innocent person. Poor cat. Special place in hell for people who are needlessly cruel to helpless animals (or people). Oh, and BTW, nice going, parents of these sick kids. Way to instill values and empathy and raise kids who are a blessing to this world.

By: momof3 on 12/17/09
Yes, I agree. Serial killers start out with animals then move to people. Or if they don't become serial killers, they'll still resort to inflicting some sort of violence on innocent people. I hope Judge Davenport locks them up over Christmas. Maybe after they spend the holidays in a cell (yes, I know attagirl, its not really a cell), don't get to play with all their cushy new toys and have fun with their family and friends, they'll realize they can't just go around doing things like that. Or better still, let somebody lay them down and stomp on their heads for a while.

Perhaps my long proposed solution to this kind of thing should finally become active.

Those who do murder to humans should have precisely the same treatment applied to them until the same result is achieved. I see no reason why this should not be applied to those who mistreat animals.

Oh dear - I can hear all the bleeding hearts raising their objections already.

Enoughisenough:- Calling them animals is an insult to the animal kingdom.

By: enoughisenough on 12/17/09

How about sickos, miscreants, or maybe just plain old psychos? These are assuredly the beginning signs of sociopathic behavior.

I also hope Judge Davenport puts these delinquints in County detention until their hearings after the first of the new year!

By: Trvlace on 12/17/09
They certainly sound like some fine outstanding young men on their way to fame and fortune on the FBI's most wanted list.

By: driveguy on 12/17/09
C'mon folks, Its only a cat!!

I know everyone here was waiting for someone to say that so, I thought I would get it going.

This is truly a horrible act and my opening statement a joke but, perhaps if found, these juveniles could spend the holiday in detention and a program that addresses violence then be sentenced to work at animal rescue cleaning cages and be around people who love animals and what their parents are not teaching them could be absorbed from truly loving hearts that staff places like PAWS here in Murfreesboro.

By: canalou on 12/17/09
What the heck does "liberal" or "conservative" have to do with a cat killing?? That's nuts!! ///kick their asses, lock 'em up and throw the key away...

By: TN-popo on 12/17/09
As a local cop, I see this kind of juvenile crime (sick crap) too often. They'll only get a "slap on the wrist" in Juv court.
People really have no idea how bad juvenile crime is around here.
TN (and the whole US) really needs to revamp juvenile punishment.

By: spook on 12/17/09
Somebody needs to stomp their sorry butts once and for all. My heart goes out to the owners of that poor cat.

By: Admiral on 12/17/09
They need time spent in Juvi, perhaps Christmas day there and then some serious counseling. I think the parents should also attend the counseling.

By: tdoggie1 on 12/17/09
Hey, ItsGood; I am a liberal and I would spank their asses and worst if they were my kids......so, dont give us this liberal stuff...what a crock..using this form to attack liberals.....! wrong is wrong...no two ways about it!

By: ItsGood on 12/17/09
tdoggie1, I am glad to see you are conservative in your moral values.

By: TimeforJustice on 12/17/09
The juvenile system does need some adjustment but such would not be necessary if parents would be parents and start putting the fear of God in these kids to stand up and act right. Parents want the educational system and the judicial system and the police to take the responsibility that they accepted when they made a decision to have a child and accept the responsibility that comes with those sweet little things.

By: tiredofanimalcruelty on 12/18/09
Something needs to be done NOW! People need to keep their animals indoors away from stupid people like this. I would not hide from these people either. If somebody did this to one of my animals, they would wish that they hadn't. I'm not somebody who could witness this and turn and walk the other way. Those people would know I was there and I'm a girl. My goodness, somebody please help these poor animals who get abused and killed everyday by dumb people. Sounds like the police dropped the ball when suspects were identified! I hope they do their job and put these people far away from anybody and any animal.

By: Boo on 12/18/09
Timeforjustice- AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! Christmas in detention would be a great start for these brats. Driveguy also has a great idea about sentencing them to work at PAWS. But lets really do some good, sentence the parents of these thugs to go along to PAWS with them.

By: Boo on 12/18/09
If the parents of these brats had any balls, aside from the courts decision on what to do about this, they would take their kid to this woman and make them look her in the eye and apologize to her and pay for her another kitten. You can bet if a kid of mine had done this, he would not only apologize and pay for another kitten, but he would be cleaning her commode and mowing her yard for the next year. And that's only after the blisters on his butt healed.

By: attagirl on 12/18/09
Tama, you'd be surprised how many people don't know that juvenile law doesn't allow sentencing. Every time there is an article about juvenile crime, somebody suggests that they be locked up. I was just pointing it out.

And no, I'm not in my first year of law school. I graduated years ago.

By: attagirl on 12/18/09
Momof3, it IS a cell. Juvenile detention is exactly like the adult jail, cells and all.

By: tnpeye on 12/18/09
Juvenile detention is not exactly like the adult jails. For many of these kids it's simply a place to get three squares a day, hang out with there friends playing spades, and earning their reps. Don't be fooled. I agree with TN-popo that folks have no idea how bad the juvenile crime problem is. While the juvenile court tries to deal with them, it really punishes the parents and is great at collecting money. These kids simply need their a$$es beat. Period.

By: attagirl on 12/18/09
Yes, tn, it is exactly like the adult jails. While I agree these kids need discipline, "beating their a$$es" might not be the answer. When the parents response to wrongdoing is to answer with aggression, then the kid learns to deal with their problems with aggression. So they grow up to be thugs. Somebody angers them, just hit 'em, right? Beating only makes the "beater" feel better; it does nothing to redirect bad behavior.

By: Paused on 12/18/09
Well at the old juvenile detention center kids would wear orange and handcuffs. While getting out of the van they would wave to friends passing by on Main Street. They certainly didn't walk with their heand hung in shame. Teens also drove their cars through the little driveway that wrapped around the building, normally it would be a car full of teens or several cars full of teens. Sometimes they would stop and sometimes they wouldn't.

But no, I don't believe for a second that they minded going to "juvie". In fact I'm sure they are loving the brand new shiney hang out we provided for them.

I wonder how old these kids were.

By: tiredofanimalcruelty on 12/19/09
Since there is no real punishment for these juveniles or anybody for that matter against animal abuse, can people not start suing families of these kids and abusers for owners emotional suffering? If these cases start showing up in courts with people actually winning by proving these animals are a part of their family, it would surely decrease abuse cases.

By: driveguy on 12/19/09
tiredofanimalcruelty,
Great idea except the courts are overburdened now. Cases would never be heard or real justice would not prevail because the cases would be hurried through or pushed down the docket so far that they may never get heard. Animal cruelty laws already exist but, don't you think that awareness education could be a more effective tool? Our public school sytems that we all pay for just like our court system, could impact our students positivley before the cruelty happens. A domestic animal appreciation program would have more impact than punishment in the long run.

By: driveguy on 12/19/09
Yes,
I agree the parents are just as responsible in this case and a deterent must be established.

By: lduke on 12/19/09
Paused-

Juveniles have never worn orange. Just because cars drove by the old facility doesn't mean anyone was paying attention. Lastly the new facility secludes the detains even more than the old one. Most of the detainees don't like the new set-up. Trust me, jail is jail regardless of the offenders age.

By: tiredofanimalcruelty on 1/17/10
Absolutely pathetic that this case just fell through the cracks just like every other animal abuse case that nobody will take seriously!

By: lifeenjoy on 5/31/10
Perhaps everyone could suggest how to help these children before its too late rather than writing them off. Its like telling your kid they are useless and will never amount to anything and expecting a different outcome. BTW Juvenile detention in rutherford county IS like a jail. The children are handcuffed, shackled at the ankles and wear black and white striped jump suits. They get one hour a day out of their cells and visitation is by web cam. As for the crime itself these children definetly need HELP.
