The Americana Music Association recently announced the recipients of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award with the selection of Booker T. Jones and Richard Thompson.
A Memphis native, Jones is a multi-instrumentalist and Grammy honoree and will receive the award for instrumentalist this year. Working with an array of artists from the Drive-By Truckers, Otis Redding and Elton John, Jones is best known for the instrumental hit “Green Onions” and his Booker T. and the MGs fame.
On the other hand, Thompson will receive the award for songwriting. With an illustrious career, artists such as Robert Plant, Los Lobos and REM have recorded some of his work.
Bonnie Raitt was previously confirmed to receive the award for performance. Along with Thompson and Jones, she will perform at the honors ceremony on Sep. 12.
In addition, Thompson is slated for a showcase during the festival.
The awards and festival will take place from Sep. 12-15.
