John Virgil Brown, Jr. (Brownie), age 85, went home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2011.
He was born and raised in Murfreesboro. John was preceded in death by his parents, John V. Brown, Sr. and Azzie Mae Bush Brown; wife, Opal Jewell Brown; and two grandsons, Scott Harris and Wesley Barrett. He was the owner of Broad Street Service Station for the past 38 years and supervisor at AVCO in Nashville.
John is survived by his sons, Roger (Sally) Brown of Murfreesboro and Jeff (Lisa) Brown of Murfreesboro; step-daughter, Carol (Michael) Barrett of Murfreesboro; step-sons, Don (Gwen) Harris of Murfreesboro and David (Beverly) Harris of Lascassas. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and very close and special friend, Mr. Ed Vines.
John served in the United States Navy in the early 1940s and fought during World War II. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Chapel service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home with Eric Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as active pallbearers.
