John Nelson Blasingame, 84, of Murfreesboro, TN, died February 21st at Middle Tennessee Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was a native of Lowndes County, Columbus, Mississippi. He had lived in Murfreesboro the past 45 years. Mr. Blasingame was a patient and loving father who idolized his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchild.

He was a former chemical plating manager and sales representative. Mr. Blasingame was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Infantry overseas and in the U.S. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Lacy Blasingame, who passed away in 2007, his parents, Frank Dow (Buck) Blasingame and Audie Coward Blasingame, and brothers, Owen Blasingame and LaVert Blasingame.

Mr. Blasingame is survived by daughter Nancy Blasingame, daughter Kay Blasingame-Boike, son-in-law David Boike, daughter Beth Blasingame-Cooke, son-in-law Van Cooke, grandson John Chance Cooke, granddaughter Paxton Lacy Cooke, granddaughter Erin Blasingame Horton (James), and great -grandson, Eliott Nelson Horton, all of Murfreesboro, TN.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening, February 23rd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro. Graveside services will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 25th in Ethelsville, Alabama with Lowndes Funeral Home in Columbus, Mississippi in charge of those arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Mr. Blasingame’s memory to the Tabernacle United Methodist Cemetery Fund, 6015 Tabernacle Rd., Ethelsville, AL 35461, or to the charity of your choice.

John Blasingame was a true example of a Great American, he was a friend to all he met and a wonderful husband and father to his family, I am bless that came into my life and was someone I can call a friend, my Heart goes out to Beth and the rest of their family, I know how much they will miss him and how good a care they took of him the past several years.
