John Neely Ross, age 69, of Smyrna, TN, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. A native of Smyrna, he was preceded in death by his parents, James “Mayfield” Lonzo Ross and Daisy Hope Neely Ross; his loving wife, Gayle Kinnard Ross; brother, Sam William “Bill” Ross; and sister, Gloria Gail Ross.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00AM at the Old Jefferson Church of Christ. Brother Ron Caldwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
John was survived by his two daughters, Amanda Ross of Murfreesboro, TN and Neely Roberts and her husband Jason of Gallatin, TN; sister, Carolyn Perry and her husband Don of Murfreesboro, TN; Brother, Jim Ross and his wife Jean of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren, Brandon Hayes and Brigitte Hayes and great grandchildren, Bailey Faith Hayes and Braydon James Hayes all of Smyrna, TN; nephew, Terry Ross of Smyrna, TN; niece, Janet Beam and her husband Eric of Buford, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many loving friends.
John was a member of Old Jefferson Church of Christ in Smyrna, TN and Fortune Road Church of Christ in Kissimmee, FL. He was a 1962 graduate of Smyrna High School and was a retired driver for 32 years with Roadway Express. John was a diehard baseball fan and his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves. He and his wife Gayle were season ticket holders to the Atlanta Braves Spring Training for many years in Lake Buena Vista, FL. He loved traveling to different MLB ballparks, touring them and enjoying the ballpark experiences. His other hobbies included golfing, cooking and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Bob Harper, Jimmy Spence, Jackie Parker, Clint Brownlow, Brandon Hayes, Todd Warrick, Randy Gibson and Ralph Donaldson will serve as pallbearers.
Ernest Warrick, Jimmy Taylor, Kenny Fergus, Don Tiers and Ken Coggins will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM and Saturday 9:00AM to 10:00AM at the Old Jefferson Church of Christ.
