John C. Smith, age 88, of La Vergne, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.

He was the son of the late Mike and Eunice Clydia Young Smith.

Smith is survived by his daughter, Cindy Vaughn, of Lavergne, and son, Ronnie Smith, of Nashville. He is also survived by his brothers Charles Smith, of Nashville, Mike Smith Jr., of Brentwood, and Paul Smith of Murfreesboro; sisters Isabelle Jackson, of Madison, Ruby Riggs, of Franklin, and Virginia Burk, of Columbia; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers Sterling, Earl, Lonnie, and E. L. Smith and by a sister Gertice Hayes.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Mapleview Cemetery with Brother Foy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mapleview Cemetery.

Smith was a member of the Baptist Church and a retired printer. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna.
