Sheriff’s detention officers saved the life of a prisoner who tried to take her life Friday, the deputy chief said.

The 27-year-old Murfreesboro woman suffered minor injuries when she tied her shirt around her neck and tried to hang herself at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, said Deputy Chief Bob Asbury.

A trusty picking up trash noticed the woman and notified detention officers Mark Logsdon, Jason Cross, Mckayla Block and Heidi Gordon who removed the shirt tied round the prisoner’s neck.

“The inmate owes her life to the attentive and quick response of Deputy Gordon,” Asbury said.

Officers placed the inmate on the floor to begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation but found she began breathing. Nurse practitioner Kecia Wisdom and nurse Brenda Levin checked her and called for an ambulance.

Deputy Will Lehew reported paramedics took the inmate to StoneCrest Medical Center for medical and mental evaluations.
