The Interfaith Dental Clinic Tuesday held the second annual Rutherford County “Story Behind the Smiles” fundraising and awareness dinner chaired by Dr. Roy Thompson and sponsored by Dempsey Vantrease & Follis, Doral, Roy Thompson, DDS and The Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary.

The event provided the community with the opportunity to learn more about the services of The Interfaith Dental Clinic and the opportunity to commit volunteer time and financial resources toward the treatment of Rutherford County patients. The event raised almost $117,000 in new pledges.

In 1994 The Interfaith Dental Clinic was founded to provide quality, affordable dental care for uninsured, employed, low-income families and the elderly in Middle Tennessee. Last year Interfaith serviced just over 130 patients from Rutherford County.

The average cost per patient for comprehensive care is $1,052 bringing the value of services provided to Rutherford County citizens during their 07-08 fiscal year to approximately $137,000.

As knowledge of their services continues to grow, it is estimated the clinic will service at least 150 patients in 2008-2009. Interfaith is the only clinic in Middle Tennessee offering comprehensive dental services to this group of individuals.

The Interfaith Dental Clinic administers care to its patients on a sliding fee scale based on income and family size; therefore, they rely on our donors and volunteer providers to subsidize the cost of delivering this care. Every dollar raised is crucial to the operation of the program and 85 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to patient care.
