Husband of missing woman indicted for false evidence | Marcie Smith

Palmer Smith
Indictments against a husband whose wife disappeared 15 months ago charge him with giving false information four times to Murfreesboro Police and fabricating a vehicle as evidence.
Glover Palmer Smith, 73, of 406 Village Green Circle, was charged with the indictments Tuesday night. Smith reported his wife, Marsilene "Marcie" Smith, 69, missing Dec. 6, 2007.
Marcie Smith, 69, a diabetic who relies on insulin to live, disappeared after her husband said she left her home to shop for Christmas. She has not been located.
Detective Maj. Jim Gage said he could not discuss the indictments. The investigation of Marcie Smith’s investigation remains open and ongoing.
“Any leads we receive from anybody are appreciated and will be followed,” Gage said. Her SUV was found the next day in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Rutherford Boulevard. Surveillance cameras showed a man getting a bicycle out of Smith’s Lincoln Navigator and pedaling toward the Wine and Spirits store.
Detective Mike Taylor, who is investigating Marcie Smith’s disappearance, presented evidence to grand jurors who returned the indictments Tuesday.
The fabricating evidence indictment accused Smith of using a vehicle with knowledge of its falsity to affect the outcome of an investigation. The fabricating evidence charge allegedly occurred the same day his wife’s SUV was found at Wal-Mart.
Regarding the false reports indictments, Smith was accused of making two statements to Murfreesboro Police Officer Bobby Edwards about incidents that didn’t occur the day the husband reported his wife’s disappearance.
Gage talked to Palmer Smith Dec. 7 and Dec. 8. The indictments accused Palmer Smith of answering Gage’s questions falsely about a material fact “with the intent to obstruct or hinder the officer from preventing the offense or incident from continuing to occur.”
Palmer Smith’s attorneys turned over a map about Marcie Smith’s possible location on the first anniversary of when she was reported missing. The origins of the map are unclear.
Murfreesboro Police and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents combed the woods in Lauderdale County near Ripley, Tenn., in search of Marcie Smith’s body but did not locate her. Gage said the indictments were not related to the map.
Police spokesman Kyle Evans said Palmer Smith declined to be interviewed by detectives when arrested. He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and released within an hour after agents from Chris Highers Bail Bonds posted a $100,000 bond. Smith was expected to receive his indictments March 16.

Too bad he found someone to bail him out. He probably needed to stay in jail for awhile at least. Too bad Chris Highers Bail Bonds came to his rescue!!!!!!

I agree, he should have never given bail. Look at the parking lot video.

On Channel 4, they showed the same video of the man leaving on the bicycle, and I saw it for the first time on my new HDTV. It looks like Palmer Smith!! I can clearly see now that it is definitely an older male, and from the many times I have seen him on TV, he is always humped over. I think there is no doubt it is him. I just wish they could find her body, but that may never happen unfortunately.

dmsdelta, when I watched the video for the first time after it happened I too thought it was a guy on the bike and was an older guy. There was just something about the way the rider sat on the bike that made me think that it was not a young person.

From what I understand Mr. Smith does not need anybody to bail him out. He is rather wealthy.

Farmall...can you bail yourself out? Not being smart...I just thought someone else had to do it for you!?!

The thing that most people dont know is, if Palmer did do this then he stands to lose all wealth if his wife dies her family gets everything he gets nothing. What is the motive.

Are the police absolutely certain that this is a man in this video and not a woman dressed as a man?
