Husband charged with aggravated domestic assault

TMP Reports

Aggravated domestic assault charges were filed against a man accused of pointing a handgun at his wife and hitting his step-granddaughter in the mouth Sunday morning at their home, a sheriff’s deputy reported.

Brett William Pijan, 61, of Morris Drive was charged with aggravated domestic assault of his wife, Elaine, 65, and step-granddaughter Katie Adams, 21, Deputy Michael Parsons reported. He was also charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest and DUI when he tried to escape deputies.

The wife told Parsons her husband began drinking heavily and she told him she didn’t want him in the bedroom.

“Pijan became enraged and began striking Mrs. Pijan in the head,” Parsons reported. “Mr. Pijan then left the bedroom and returned with a handgun. Mr. Pijan pointed it at her and she began to struggle with him until she was able to get the gun away from him.”

During the struggle, Pijan apparently struck the step-granddaughter in the mouth, the deputy reported. She called 911.

When deputies arrived, they saw Pijan leaving in his SUV. They pursued him until he traveled off Compton Road and became stuck in a ditch. They took him into custody. He was charged with DUI.

He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. His hearing is set May 7 in General Sessions Court.
