Husband accused of threatening wife's family | Charles Loyd, Richard Lykins, aggravated domestic assault

Charles Loyd
An armed man who threatened to kill relatives inside his home charged at a sheriff’s deputy and taunted the officer to shoot him Monday off Old Nashville Highway.

It was one of two aggravated domestic assault charges in 24 hours in the county.

Charles Loyd, 70, of Burleson Lane cursed Deputy Nathan Devers and refused to show him his hands or get on the ground when Devers responded to a domestic assault call. Devers pulled out his service handgun and ordered Loyd to get on the ground. Loyd cursed him and demanded the deputy shoot him.

“Loyd then began to charge at me while keeping his hands in his pockets yelling, shoot me,” Devers reported. “I then attempted to spray Mr. Loyd with Freeze + P, which was ineffective due to wind conditions. After several more commands were given to Mr. Loyd, he finally revealed his hands and placed them on the hood of my patrol car.”

Devers handcuffed Loyd and placed him into Cpl. Ryan Huggins’ patrol car while he interviewed family members.

Step-grandson Todd Rowland told Devers he came to move his grandmother, Pauline Loyd, out of the home when Loyd yelled and cursed him. Loyd retrieved a handgun, pointed it at Rowland and stated, “I’m going to kill you.”

Rowland ran for his vehicle while his mother, Lisa Rowland, attempted to keep Loyd from leaving the home, the deputy reported.

“Loyd pointed the handgun at Ms. Rowland and physically forced her out of his way,” Devers reported. “After getting outside the residence with the handgun, Mr. Loyd was waving the handgun recklessly in the presence of his wife, Pauline Loyd, stepdaughters Lisa Rowland and Jeannie Wright and step-grandson Todd Rowland.”

Devers charged Loyd with aggravated domestic assault of Lisa and Todd Rowland, reckless endangerment of his wife and resisting arrest.

Loyd was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he was ordered held for 12 hours. Bond was set at $14,500. A hearing was scheduled Feb. 18 in General Sessions Court.

In an unrelated domestic assault, Deputy David Ashburn reported roommate Richard Cody Lykins, 20, threatened victim Danielle Haven of Church Street in Christiana at knifepoint Sunday evening.

Ashburn and Deputy Curtis Beane found Lykins armed with a knife.

“He was ordered to drop it and he complied,” Ashburn repotted.

Haven and Lykins were arguing about her disrespecting her father when he grabbed the knife and pointed it at her, the deputies reported.

“She was in fear of her life and tried to grab it from him but was unsuccessful,” Ashburn reported.

Haven’s father, Jimmy, intervened and put Lykins in a headlock but Lykins punched his ribs. Haven threw Lykins out on the front porch while his daughter called 911.

Ashburn charged Lykins with aggravated domestic assault and violation of probation. His hearing is set March 4 in General Sessions Court.
